Golden Part 2

Golden part 2 is here (you can see part 1 here if you missed it) - I'm so excited to be showing you the rest of the photos from Tashi and my shoot at Luna Park.

Funny story about the last two photos - there was no one at the clowns when we wanted to take these photos so the lady working there stood there staring at me while I smiled at the wall and then walked away without actually having a go at winning a prize... Haha well at least the photos turned out pretty well!

First day back at school today and it actually went surprisingly well - apart from finding out that there was a 3 hour physics paper that I forgot to do in the holidays... (whoops)

Hope you all have a great week,
Gigi x

P.S. I asked you guys on snapchat and a lot of you were keen for me to do another blog post about my bullet journal so that will be coming very soon!

6 tips for collaborating with brands

One of the many fun things about blogging is that you get to collaborate with different brands. Over the past two years I have worked with many companies and have learnt a lot, which I will share with you today!

milky way blogger's tips on collaborating with companies
  • Firstly, write an email to the company you are interested in collaborating with (I use the following format).
...
 1. Introduction of yourself, your blog and what your blog is about (only a couple of sentences)
2. Discuss why you love their products (do research before emailing the company and demonstrate that you care in your email - e.g. commenting about the fact that the company is eco-friendly or cruelty free)
3. Mention that you are interested in a collaboration and tell them any ideas you have thought of
4.  Ask them what they think about the collaboration and if they have any other ideas
5. Sign off with your name and include links to your blog/ YouTube/ social media

...
  • Always thank companies for responding to your emails (even if they don't wish to collaborate)
  • Don't be afraid to write back to the company with feedback about their product/ packaging after you have tried it out etc.
  • Stay on top of deadlines; when deciding on a date for the photos/ post to be released (not all brands do this), suggest a date a bit after you plan to have the photos ready, just in case something doesn't go to plan.
  • Only collaborate with brands that sell products that you believe your viewers would be interested in and that you love.
  • Let the brand know when you have posted about them with links to the images/ blog posts so that they don't need to chase you up!

Playing with fire

As you all know from one of my last blog posts, GOLDEN, my friend Tashi and I spent almost 3 days together exploring the city, harbour and streets of Sydney to shoot some outfits for you all. On both nights, we had some fun with a packet of sparklers and these photos are the result! After we ran out of sparklers, we tried with a phone light and it actually worked (scroll down to the last picture in this blog post).

1 more week of holidays and at the end of next week I'm going hiking with a friend for Duke of Ed - an international award where you complete 5 sections:
  • Service
  • Skill
  • Physical recreation
  • Adventurous journey - which is the camp I'm going on
  • A residential project)
After that it's back to school for my second last term of year 12 - can't believe I'm already 1/2 way through!

Have a great week,
G x

It's hard to tell from the photo, but this picture was taken from Tashi's balcony while I ran in circles in her back garden with a sparkler in each hand. The reason it is so wobbly is because I was laughing so much!

10 things I wish I knew when I started blogging

milky way blogger, milkywayblogger, milkywayblog, milky way blog, milky way, mwb, blogging, tips, advice, how to start a blog, georgia, georgia abbott, gigi

Two and a half years of blogging has taught me a lot of important lessons. I've compiled a list of things I wish I knew when I first started blogging so that it can help those of you who have a blog/ are thinking of starting one.
  • Never apologise for not posting on your blog/ social media for a long period of time; it's much nicer to tell people what you've been up to recently and get on with your post instead of creating unnecessary negativity.

  • Be patient - 1000 followers are not likely to appear overnight. Blogging requires hard work and persistence.

  • Blog because you love it - not because everyone else is doing it, or because you want free products.

  • Be original (this is so so important). There is no point copying another blogger because their blog already exists and people don't want to read the same thing twice. Create new, unique content and be confident with what you're putting out there. It is your personal space, own it!

  • Use other bloggers as inspiration NOT competition - comparing yourself to others under any circumstances makes you feel miserable so there really isn't any point.

  • Experiment - you don't need to get everything perfect the first go!

  • If you contact a company asking to collaborate and they reply saying that they can't/ aren't interested, always reply to thank them for responding.

  • Pick 2-3 social media platforms (or however many you can manage) and post as often as you can, rather than having 10 accounts that rarely get used.

  • You don't have to do everything on your blog - by focusing on a couple of topics e.g. fashion and food, it's easier to gain an audience as people know what they are coming to read.

  • Give pictures titles when saving them e.g. instead of 'DSC0798' call it the title of the post - this helps drive traffic to your blog i.e. a greater audience that you can reach and connect with!

If you have a blog, I'd love to hear what you've learnt and then other readers can also learn some tips from you!

Golden Part 1

I'm so excited to show you these photos that I took with my friend Tashi this week - probably the most fun I've ever had shooting blog posts! We ventured into the city and then caught a train across to Luna Park where we spent 3 hours prancing around the park taking photos in the hopes of capturing that magical and fun yet busy vibe at all carnivals/ amusement parks.

We had some funny encounters with clowns and received a lot of stares from people as we stood in the middle of Luna Park blowing glitter and bubbles all over the place, but it was totally worth it! Hope you love these photos as much as I do and get excited for another 7 shoots that we took over the past couple of days.

Have a wonderful week,
Gigi x

Styling Workshop | inSTUDIO

Hey everyone,

It's the holidays!!! Weowww.

So many fun things going on, starting with last weekend - Zoe and I headed off to North Sydney to try out a workshop at the iscd's awesome new campus specifically for interior design - the campus is called inStudio

iscd is the International School of Colour + Design and throughout the year they run workshops on photography, design & colour. Zoe and I did the inSTUDIO interior styling workshop.

I had great fun learning:
  • Different design styles and how to apply them to your own spaces at home
  • Useful styling tips for creating a mood (through colour, shapes, furniture and more) within an interior space

It was also super cool to meet other young people, with similar interests. If you're interested in studying there, I definitely recommend attending one of their workshops to get a taste of what it's all about!

Check out inStudio's social media below if you'd like to know more:

Have a lovely week,

Travel Diary | Melbourne

Those of you who follow me on Instagram/ Snapchat will know that I spent the weekend in Melbourne with Brooke. Brooke and I met for the first time in Bali in 2013 as we were both staying at the same resort. We met again in 2014 when Brooke came to Sydney with her family and again when I drove to Melbourne last year (you can see the photos here). Coincidentally, Brooke and I were both in Hamilton Island at the same time last year so we got to spend some time together there. Brooke spent a week at my place during the Summer holidays and then this time I spent just under a week at her place! It's so cool that we've been able to keep up, even though we live in different states.

It was so much fun to spend time together exploring beaches, visiting galleries, eating at vegan cafes and playing card games for hours.

I will be shooting lots of videos/ blog posts in the holidays (starting in 1 week!!) so that I can post throughout the next few months because year 12 keeps me pretty busy during the term. Remember to follow me on snapchat (milkywayblogger) to see daily snaps of food, friends and my bullet journal.

Enjoy the photos and have a lovely week!
